Meditations from A Cheerful Heretic

My Jesus

I call myself Christian Because I know and accept a God revealed by the life and words of Jesus. It matters not to me whether Jesus was born miraculously, or performed miracles during His life, or survived physical death to ascend to heaven, or came to save me, or will come again to judge the world.

What excites and motivates me is that Jesus remains spiritually alive after two thousand years, in billions of imperfect followers who attempt in life to Improve a world of great diversity, adversity, and unpredictability.

A world that continues to move forward aided by the limitless love of His eternal God.

Jesus is the greatest force for good in the history of the world and my inspiration in life.

The God I Found

The God I found did not create our Universe or world,

or even anything that lives in our world.

The God I found has no expectations for anything that lives in our world.

The God I found is present and available everywhere and to everyone, and not in some faraway place called Heaven.

The God I found is eternal, and exists as unseen and profound love.

Love of limitless wisdom, humility, compassion, justice, and mercy.

Love waiting to respond and be alive in us in the fullness of time by our invitation and prayer for ourselves and others.

To know God's love is

Amazing.

Wisdom

Older people occasionally are heard to say,

"I've heard it all, seen it all, and read it all, I just can't remember it all."

But when they can remember some of it, and put what they remember into context,

it's called Wisdom.

We can inherit much from those who come before us,

but we all start life with zero wisdom and need the experience of life to acquire it.

Some acquire more than others, but everyone has some.

Wisdom accomplishes little if not shared, and many take theirs with them at the end.

But when it is good and shared and remembered,

our world can benefit and move forward.

The God I worship has witnessed everything and remembered it all,

since the beginning of time.

We need to acquire knowledge on our own;

but when we reach out to God for guidance in how to use our knowledge in life,

God's guidance comes with the wisdom of eternity.

Creation

Most of Science believes 13.7 billion years ago,
our universe including the space it inhabits,
began as an infinitely hot and dense single point,
that inflated and stretched, first at unimaginable speeds,
then at a more measurable rate and continues to expand today.
Within a second, a flood of matter and radiation,
began populating our universe with particles and atoms,
that would become stars and galaxies and other things,

only scientists understand.
What existed before the Big Bang,
is something Science calls a “mystery”.
Science has come a long way in the 7000 years,
since the Book of Genesis was written
declaring God Creator of all that exists.
Science hasn’t yet eliminated the possibility that,
a spiritual God contemplated by Genesis,
pre-existed the Big Bang, and
simply imagined the Big Bang into existence.
Science and Genesis could both be right.
